In this section about the Master Bedroom you'll notice I haven't included much info about your wardrobe. There is a "how to" section dedicated to just that.
Remember the rule in the cleaning section about double handling? Well, clothes are no exception. Take the time to hang your clothes after wearing them. It will only take a few seconds and they won't be left on the floor. Or, take them straight to the laundry basket.
Last out of the bed makes it! Have a neat and tidy bed will make it more visually pleasing.
Bathrobes and dressing gowns. Purchase an over the door hook, they're cheap and holds several items that you use frequently.
If you need to purchase new bedroom furniture think about space maximisation. Look for bedside cabinets with draws rather than a plain table top. This way you can keep personal items close.
If you are purchasing a new bedroom suite, look for a bed head with built in shelves. You can store your alarm clock, books, water and so forth.
For most bathrooms you won't need much time at all. But if you haven't been through the vanity unity in quite a while, be prepared!!!
Toilet paper, towels, cosmetics, razors, deodorants, the list goes on. What we need to keep in the bathroom is just as amazing as the kitchen.
To declutter the bathroom you'll need the following supplies:
· Garbage bags - at least 2 large ones, probably more
· A cupboard cleaner, gloves and cloth.
Before we start decluttering the bathroom we need to work out what storage space we have already and how we can best utilise that. If you have no room in your bathroom at all for a cupboard you may consider doing a little handy work and installing a simple shelving unit above the vanity or along the longest wall.
Bathrooms vary as much as people. Here are some suggestions to help you declutter effectively and efficiently. Like the linen cupboard, pull everything out of your vanity unit and give it a good wipe over.
Cosmetics - Most cosmetics have a shelf life of only 6 months. If your cosmetics are older than this or you can't remember when you used them last, throw them out. It's unhygienic to keep and use them any longer. Now have a good look at your cosmetics. How many lipsticks do you need? Put all of your cosmetics in a cosmetic bag.
Hair Dryers - we all know that hair dryers or anything electrical shouldn't be used near water or even in the bathroom. If anyone holds the rest of the household up because their styling their hair of a morning, move their hairdryer and tools into their bedroom. If the hairdryer needs to stay in the bathroom, considering using an adhesive hook to attach it to the vanity and to keep it off the shelf giving you more room and less clutter.
If you don't have a toilet roll holder to store the extra toilet paper, invest a few dollars only in a small waste paper bin to compliment your bathroom colors. This will keep your toilet paper neat and you can see at a glance how much you have left.
As you put the remaining items in your vanity ask yourself the following - when did I use it last? Remember if it's more than 6 months, it's time to get rid of it.
Invest in small decorative baskets to store odds and ends such as barrettes, hair combs, hair ties, nail clippers, files, polish, makeup and lipstick. This will keep everything in its place and reduce the clutter in your vanity drawer. You will also avoid everything "shifting" whenever the drawer is opened.
If you have a glass/laminate shower screen you can now purchase products that simply spray on when the last person has showered to keep it sparkling.
Does your shower have many different types of hair care products? Purchase a shower caddy to pop over the shower head. You can keep all the different brands of shampoo and conditioner, soap, flannels, etc on there. Or perhaps you can invest in a corner unit. These units have several small shelves to put your bathroom supplies in.
Have a supply of bathroom tissue, towels, and basic toiletries in each bathroom. The shelving I mentioned before is a great place to keep the towels up high.
Make sure there is a laundry basket in the bathroom and enforce its usage by all household members.
